CHW Training

Community Health Worker Training Overview

The UK CERH, recognized by the State as the designated community health worker training site, offers CHW training focused on helping medically underserved residents access appropriate health services and providing health education and disease self-management, with emphasis placed on preventive care. The training covers the major health and social problems encountered by Kentuckians. The training includes a 40-hour didactic training and an 80-hour practicum (shadowing experienced CHWs) within the three month orientation period. The protocol manual builds upon over 20 years of developing, implementing, and training community health workers. It was developed in consultation with health providers, experience of CHWs and from researching current health information.

All CHWs are required to complete all training modules included in the Community Health Training program.
