Community Leadership Institute of Kentucky

The Community Leadership Institute of Kentucky is a leadership development training program offered by the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health, the Kentucky Office of Rural Health, and the UK CCTS Community Engagement and Research Program. The Institute is designed to enhance community research and capacity-building competencies in community leaders, directors, and administrators. The overall goal of the program is to assist community leaders associated with organizations that engage and empower communities to reduce health disparities, leverage funding, and learn how to use data to improve services and programs.

Mental Health First Aid

The evidence behind Mental Health First Aid demonstrates that the training builds mental health literacy, helping the public to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness. The training is conducted as an 8-hour course that provides participants the skills to assist someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis until appropriate professional help arrives.

Community Health Worker Training

The UK CERH community health worker (CHW) training is based upon more than 20 years of experience in developing and implementing an award-winning CHW model. Developed by Kentucky Homeplace, in consultation with health care providers, experienced CHWs and current health trend information, the training addresses major health and social issues of underserved populations with emphasis on prevention, chronic disease self-management and encouragement of a healthy lifestyle.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
Community Health Workers are trained to facilitate community-based health education and coaching workshops to assist people with chronic illness to achieve improvements in nutrition, medication use, exercise, communication, decision-making and more.
